About the program

An incubator for independent thinkers.

Our mission is to extend the spirit of Bixby School to the homeschool community — fostering an environment where curiosity drives learning, individual talents are celebrated, and children prepare to become purposeful global citizens.

Bixby Academy operates on the Bixby School campus and is delivered by Bixby’s faculty through a services agreement — giving homeschool families access to the same inquiry-based, project-driven instruction that has shaped Bixby students for decades. Homeschool students learn together in dedicated Bixby Academy classes, separate from the day school’s classes. Classes are small (6–12 students), led by certified teachers and content specialists.

A program of our own. Bixby Academy is a standalone homeschool enrichment program with its own dedicated cohort, schedule, and community — separate from Bixby School’s day program. That means our days are designed start-to-finish for homeschool families: the pacing, the projects, and the peer group are all built around how homeschoolers actually learn and live, while still drawing on Bixby’s teachers, pedagogy, and craft.

Program areas

Hands-on, interdisciplinary, and joyful.

Programming is inquiry-based and project-driven, drawing real-world questions across the arts, sciences, and humanities. Each area is led by a content specialist.

Creative & Visual Arts

Creativity through performance, design, and collaborative projects — expanding access to the arts for students in small or solo homeschool environments.

Science

Inquiry-based investigation of real-world phenomena. Students explore driving questions through observation, experimentation, and discovery.

Math

A multi-sensory approach grounded in applied math skills and concepts — including support for students working to develop core math fluency.

Literacy

Structured literacy support using the Orton-Gillingham approach, individualized and mastery-based for students who benefit from foundational reading and writing development.

Swimming

Swim instruction and water-confidence activities offered as a regular afternoon program option — with certified instructors and small groups.

Our approach

Guided discovery, not delivered facts.

We see education as a partnership where the child’s curiosity leads. Instruction is a process of guided discovery, with teachers who scaffold real-world inquiry across disciplines.

Social-Emotional Learning

Students develop emotional language, self-awareness, and the social skills to advocate, collaborate, and care for themselves within a community of learners.

Academic Support

Individualized, mastery-based instruction for students encountering learning challenges — with research-backed literacy and math methods.

Hands-On Learning

Real-world questions and projects develop academic, social, and critical-thinking skills in tandem.

A Vibrant Community

An inclusive “home base” where students, educators, and families collaborate — honoring the autonomy of the homeschool journey.

🌳 Generous Outdoor Spaces

Our campus features beautiful, expansive outdoor areas where children explore through creek studies, seasonal observations, sustainable gardening, and play in wild spaces — with time outside woven into every Bixby day.

🥾 Walking Field Trips

We’re steps from Buffalo Ranch, Tantra Park, and Bridgewalk Pond. Regular walking field trips bring lessons into nature and root our learning in the landscape we share.
